Key Laboratory of Systematic Mycology and Lichenology

Introduction

The Key Laboratory of Systematic Mycology and Lichenology was founded in 1985 at Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In order to provide basic information for a deep understanding of modern life sciences, for exploration and utilization of fungal resources as well as for control of harmful fungi, system and evolution of fungi based on traditional and molecular techniques, integrative biology of fungi and screening of bioactive substances from fungi, as well as application of the economically important groups.

Main Research Area

  • Fungal taxonomy and biodiversity: To discover new taxa, understand the biodiversity and ecological distribution of fungi in China. To revise and study some monographs.
  • Fungal systematics, evolution and integrative biology: To study the relationships and the processes of some important fungi based on Morphology, Biogeography, Physiology, Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology.
  • Storage of fungal resources: To collect fungal specimens and isolate strains in China, and to store the dry specimens in the Herbarium Mycologicum Academiae Sinicae in Beijing (HMAS) and the living cultures in the China General Microbiological Culture Collection Center (CGMCC) in Beijing, China.
